Byes

1. You get two 'BYES' on Reading Responses and two "BYES" on Video Responses. That's two of each you can skip with no penalty--FOUR assignments all total. NO BYES ON EITHER OF THE NOVELS THO. You can't use your byes to skip an entire book.

Peg will put 0s in those columns when you don't do an assignment, but at the end of the course she'll have Canvas DROP THE TWO LOWEST SCORES in each category (Reading Responses and Video Responses). That will make those two 0s go away. SO.... do the work, but you can skip two depending on your OTHER Classes Work load or personal life.

2. You also get ONE attendance bye. So you can miss one class, for whatever reason, with no penalty. After that, missing class counts against your grade. I don't care why you miss class or if you have a doctor's appointment or a super sad story. My job is to create a learning experience and I can't do that if you're not there, for whatever reason. If you can't attend class, for whatever reason, you probably have a complicated life and need to drop the class.

*Peg would really appreciate it if you'd remember this thing about the 0s and the dropping those scores. I get SOOOOO many emails about it and it's exhausting when I have explain it over and over and over and over....

2. You also get ONE attendance bye. That is, you can miss one Zoom class with no penalties. You don't have to email me.

Late Work Policy

I do take late work but with caveats. Here's why. I want you to do the work, but what I really want is for you to do the work on time. The point of having your videos or readings done BEFORE CLASS is so that we can discuss them. Thus the class DEPENDS on the bulk of the students having done the work BEFORE CLASS.

That said, shit happens. You get behind, you get sick, the world collapses and freaks you out. So you can upload late work (which is one of the reasons I don't put due dates on stuff), but I won't comment on it beyond a "late" comment and I will take points 2 points off for each week it's late. So you can see, there's no percentage in waiting till week 15 to hand in all your work cause most of it will be more than 5 weeks late and not worth anything.

IF you get so far behind your work isn't worth much anymore, you might think about dropping the course. I get you all have struggles and challenges. I do too. But I don't get to not do my work, and and still get paid. You don't get to not do the work and still get a grade. It's not fair to the students who did the work.

On the other hand, if you have something epic happen in your life and fall behind with your homework, EMAIL PEG. I'm a mother and I'm a pretty nice person. Maybe we can work something out. Don't just disappear and expect me to help you the last two weeks of the semester (or the last day of finals week). I'll be tired and cranky then.
